IES Consultants carried out sustainability, LEED consulting and early energy modeling for this fifteen year, comprehensive development of a multi-model transportation hub in downtown San Francisco. The project includes geothermal HVAC, daylighting, natural ventilation and an extensive rooftop garden/park with an extensive greywater reuse system. (2006 to present)

The Transbay Transit Center is a modern regional transit hub connecting eight Bay Area counties and the State of California through 11 transit systems: AC Transit, BART, Caltrain, Golden Gate Transit, Greyhound, Muni, SamTrans, WestCAT Lynx, Amtrak, Paratransit and future High Speed Rail from San Francisco to Los Angeles/Anaheim. The new Transit Center will accommodate up to 45 million riders annually, including bus, commuter rail and high speed rail passengers, of which many will walk or ride their bicycles to and from the Center.

Opening i
n late 2018, The Transbay Transit Center will be a gold certified LEED building development, required extensive coordination with multiple phases of design, construction and funding; lease agreements for tenants and coordination with the City of San Francisco’s Green Building Ordinance. Also critical to the process was the early design evaluation of the appropriate rating system for this project since it included multiple tenant types (office, transit, retail) and portions of the building which were unfinished spaces.
