IES Consulting used CFD to investigate the effectiveness of the odour control system design at this new recycling centre.

Key Facts

  • Development cost: £154 million
  • 90% green waste diversion from landfill
  • Annual CO2 saving: 90,000 tonnes
  • Power production: 22,000 households
  • Heating production: 8,000 households

IES Consulting used CFD modelling to investigate the effectiveness of the odour control system design at the new Glasgow Recycling and Renewable Energy Centre.  The odour control system encompassed four plants within the centre and its primary aim was to prevent air exfiltration so odours generated inside the plants did not escape and pollute the surrounding environment. Initial analysis focussed on comparing the performance of two diffuser locations with the better design option being tested further by simulating against a series of selected operating conditions.
