IES Consulting used CFD modelling to investigate the thermal response heavy mass construction may have on heating and cooling system performance.

Key Facts

  • Traditional masonary building converted for use as a performance environment

The Welsh Chapel in London is a traditional masonry building converted for use as a performance environment. CFD modelling addressed concerns the thermal response of the heavy mass construction may have on heating and cooling system performance. Initially a dynamic simulation model ascertained the realistic boundary conditions, with the CFD model closely investigating the space airflows working to determine if temperatures in the seating and performing zones were maintained within acceptable comfort limits for both peak summer and winter conditions.
