IES Consulting were commissioned to carry out daylighting and energy simulations on the new Hamad International Airport in Doha Qatar.

Key Facts

  • 50 million annual passengers
  • Daylighting, Glare and Energy analysis
  • Architect: HOK

IES analysed daylighting and glare in an attempt to reduce glare discomfort to passengers and airport staff and provide them with an improved experience inside the airport.

Through use of IESVE daylighting was analysed on a monthly, weekly, daily and even hourly basis by comparison to local weather data. Through analysing the solstices and equinoxes, the range of potential glare discomfort and surface reflectance could be fully understood and accounted for.

Alongside IES Consulting provided an energy optimisation study around the installed artificial lighting to determine potential energy reduction strategies.
