IES Consulting were commissioned to perform building performance analysis and a thermal comfort study of Great Glen House, the Headquarters of Scottish Natural Heritage. Using the IES Virtual Environment a 3D model was created and dynamic thermal, bulk-airflow, SunCast, HVAC, lighting efficiencies and computational fluid dynamic simulations were carried out.
Great Glen House was designed to meet a “high sustainability-oriented” brief and to create a benchmark for best practice in sustainable commercial development. The building contains office space for 300 staff, with meeting rooms, boardrooms, an elliptical library, a staff room, labs and a feature central atrium space.
Upon completion Great Glen House achieved the highest ever office BREEAM score of 84.01% and was voted best corporate workplace in the UK at British Council for Offices (BCO) Awards 2007.
