IES Consulting used simulation to maximise the BREEAM scoring of the University of Strathclyde's Stenhouse Building refurbishment.

Key Facts

  • Achieved HEA 01, 10 and ENE 01BREEAM credits
  • Scored 8 BREEAM credits
  • EPC (for BREEAM scoring) B

IES Consulting used simulation to optimise the energy performance as well as maximise the BREEAM scoring of the University of Strathclyde's Stenhouse Building refurbishment.

Lighting and simulation credits were achieved through the process of creating a 3 dimensional model build of the local campus, followed by thermal and daylighting simulation. Finally the project assessed the refurbished building's Section 6 compliance and improved EPC rating.

IES Consulting were appointed to perform:

  • The production of a BIM energy model.
  • A zonal daylighting analysis for a series of potential internal layouts, including a BREEAM Credit HEA 01 assessment.
  • Optimising the natural ventilation strategy using a bulk airflow analysis to review the required of window openings/area.
  • A building regulations compliance assessment for Section 6 and the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC).
