As part of a two-phase decarbonisation and optimisation strategy, IES successfully developed a calibrated Digital Twin of the Queenslie site and integrated it with the IES Live platform to deliver a single-pane view of performance and actionable insights. United Wholesale Scotland (UWS) is Scotland’s largest independent cash-and-carry and wholesale operator. At its Queenslie HQ, located on the outskirts of Glasgow, the company is using IES Live to take control of its energy use, optimise operations, and reduce carbon emissions.

Metering for Deeper Operational Savings
IES and UWS partnered with MeterZ to undertake metered data analysis that unlocked significant additional operational savings. This cost-effective and replicable approach involved:
By expanding data coverage at the site and feeding into IES Live, more granular data across the site would unlock further operational savings. Installed metering included:

This identified opportunities for further annual operational savings, including:
Combined, these measures represent total annual savings of 117-140 MWh, a total EUI reduction of 8-10%, and estimated annual cost savings of £18-21.7K.

Results & Outlook
The UWS team have already actioned the first tranche of operational observations, with the ongoing monitoring currently in a validation phase.
These identified Phase 2 measures, paired with the Phase 1 Modelling results, will enable UWS to unlock operational and retrofit savings in the range of £18,000–£36,000 over the coming 18 months as the site implements their identified strategy, fully informed by data and continuously validated within IES Live.
Using IES Live, UWS’s Facilities and Engineering teams will be able to monitor, verify, and act on performance insights - reducing operational risk, improving ROI, and supporting data-driven capital planning.
“Our collaboration with IES demonstrated the value of combining live smart metering with live operational insight. MeterZ’s solution improved visibility across the Queenslie site, helping to uncover significant opportunities to reduce energy waste, optimise operational performance and support UWS’s wider net-zero goals.”

"The insights we've gained through IES Live have delivered real value. Working closely with the IES team, we've identified operational inefficiencies that simply weren't visible before and quickly turned those findings into measurable savings. From optimising our LED screens to improving solar PV performance, the platform has given us the data needed to make informed decisions with confidence. As we expand this approach across multiple UWS sites, IES Live will continue to play a key role in improving efficiency, reducing costs, and supporting our sustainability goals".
