IES Welcome Top Building Performance Experts to its Ireland Consulting Team

New team brings a wealth of expertise to IES’s consulting services in the region

IES is excited to welcome new talent to its Ireland Consulting team including LEED and Building Energy Modelling expert Dónal O’Connor as Associate Director for the region’s consultancy division, alongside Performance Modelling specialist, James Duggan and certified Energy Management professional, Peter Penn. 

The new recruits bring specialist expert knowledge and skills to particularly complex areas of building performance analysis. Joining an already highly experienced team with over 300 years combined experience, IES Consulting provide unmatched expertise. 



The Ireland Consulting team are excited to offer a host of services to the region including:

LEED - Energy Modelling: 

o    Detailed HVAC energy modelling relating to LEED Energy Modelling Credits
o    Expertise in LEED v4 and LEED v4.1
o    In-depth and diverse analysis options across all aspects of LEED and sustainable design, to complement our LEED Energy Modelling services

LEED – Commissioning:

o    LEED Commissioning Fundamental & Enhanced
o    Monitoring Based Commissioning (including credits with LEED v4.1)
o    Post - occupancy analysis
o    Building tuning and on-site analysis of systems operation for existing buildings as part of energy auditing with a view to reduce energy consumption through correct plant operation

Meet our Ireland Consulting team experts:

Dónal O’Connor, Associate Director IES Consulting Ireland

As a Chartered Engineer with further LEED AP, Building Energy Modelling and Certified Energy Manager qualifications, Dónal has worked on a vast array of LEED, Part L, Daylight/Sunlight, Overheating, Pedestrian Wind Comfort and Energy Audit projects, using building energy modelling to improve building system design, energy performance and occupant comfort. He has extensive experience of optimising natural daylighting and natural ventilation designs through building façade analysis, and feasibility studies for renewable energy, HVAC retrofits, lighting retrofits and net-zero energy projects. As a qualified Thermal Bridging and Hygrothermal Risk Assessor, he is also able to provide expert advice on how to reduce heat loss at building junctions and reduce both surface and interstitial condensation risk.

James Duggan, Project Manager IES Consulting Ireland

James is a Chartered Engineer with Energy Auditing and Energy Assessor qualifications.  James has more than 13 years’ experience working within the construction and engineering sectors in Ireland and Australia.   Such projects include MEP design, LEED, Part L, Net Zero, Commissioning, NABERS, BREEAM, Overheating and daylighting.

By utilising his vast experience in MEP design, commissioning and building performance modelling James’ expertise to optimise building performance he has contributed to significant energy, carbon and cost reductions on many projects.

Peter Penn, Senior Commissioning Consultant
 
Peter has a strong technical background in energy efficient design and energy management. As a Certified Energy Manager with accreditations in commercial BER, ESOS and LEED, Peter has ten years industry experience helping C&I companies improve their energy efficiency and reduce utility costs. His main expertise lies in:

- Energy efficient design
- Energy audits, data analysis & utility metering
- Project management
- Reporting and Compliance
- Commissioning, O&M, continuous improvement

Paul Brady, Consultancy Project Manager
 
Paul joined IES in April 2017 and has over 13 years’ industry experience working in Environmental Sustainable Design in the UK, Australia and Ireland specializing in HVAC design, building energy assessments, thermal modelling and environmental sustainability ratings.

Paul holds the following accreditations

•    SEAI accredited Non-Domestic Building Energy Assessor (Ireland)
•    CIBSE certified Low Carbon Consultant (UK)
•    NABERS Accredited Assessor (Australia)
•    Green Star Accredited Professional (Australia)

Eoin Sullivan, Senior Commissioning Consultant 

Eoin joined IES in January 2020 and is a highly experienced consulting engineer and commissioning expert. He has Building Services Engineering Degrees from Waterford Institute of Technology and the Dublin Institute of Technology. 

Eoin has over 10 years’ experience in the construction industry ranging across sustainable building design, HVAC system design, commissioning and operation, energy efficiency and project management. Eoin has provided consultancy services for large projects in Ireland and the UK and specialises specifically in the area of Commissioning Services. To date, Eoin is currently managing LEED Commissioning projects and actively serves as the LEED Commissioning Authority in order to implement the ASHRAE Guideline 0-2005 Commissioning Process. 

Gary Nixon, Senior Business Development Manager 

Gary has recently re-joined the Irish Consultancy team in a business development capacity. Since joining IES in 2007, Gary has worked as part of the Irish based consultancy team in a Senior Project Consultant position and also spent time in our Melbourne office. Gary has also worked as part of the IES software business development team since 2012. Gary has a Bachelor of Engineering degree (Hons) from Technological University Dublin and is a member of Engineers Ireland. Gary has vast experience in conducting building energy and environmental modelling on numerous different building projects throughout the world as well as providing training to both company’s and university students in the use of IES software tools.

Our Ireland division also draws on the expertise of Glasgow based Douglas Bell, Consultancy Manager for BIM and Lighting and Harshad Joshi, our CFD expert.
