Erbil International Airport - Energy, Solar & Airflow Analysis

Erbil

IES Consulting were commissioned to investigate the new Erbil International Airport terminal's potential energy consumption.

Key Facts

  • Project Cost: $550 million
  • Building type: Airport

The new Erbil International Airport terminal opened in March 2010 and IES Consulting were involved in the design process from 5 years earlier to investigate the terminal's potential energy consumption.

The assessment included a solar shading simulation to capture the impact of external shading louvres as well as dynamic energy and airflow simulations on the displacement ventilation system.

With the design's modelling there was a challenge to maintain occupant comfort in a highly glazed building within a very hot climate. IES Consulting were able to communicate detailed results using the IESVE throughout the terminal space which was a significant benefit towards the design team's decision making.
