DevOps Engineer

Glasgow (home-working initially)

This role will be temporarily homebased due to COVID-19. Then subsequently working from our Glasgow office with hybrid and flexible working options available.

The Opportunity

We are currently looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer to join our team in Glasgow. Working together with Software Development, QA and IT teams, the successful candidate will be designing and implementing a scalable build environment and continuous integration pipeline. This include building and maintaining internal tools that assist teams from writing their first line of code through extensive testing to software release.

Key responsibilities include the following:

  • Design, develop and maintain cloud-based infrastructure running on Azure and of premises offerings.
  • Maintain documentation of the company’s existing systems architecture and technology portfolio; make recommendations for improvements and/or alternatives.
  • Develop, document, communicate, and enforce a policy for standardising systems and software as necessary.
  • Maintain a positive approach to the company’s continued adoption of DevOps principles with regular communication with stakeholders and end users.
  • Coach and mentor colleagues and peers to enhance knowledge sharing.
  • Assist the Software Development Team with deployment responsibilities.

The Candidate

We are looking for a DevOps Engineer, with superior analytical and problem-solving skills who has experience collaborating with development groups to establish processes. The successful candidate will demonstrate commitment to quality with a passion for testing and possess excellent oral and written communication skills.

Skills include the following:

Essential Skills:

  • 2+ year’s DevOps experience
  • Degree in related subject or relevant professional experience
  • Source Control Management systems (e.g. Perforce, git)
  • Continuous Integration (CI) tools (e.g. Jenkins, Azure DevOps)
  • Virtualisation technologies (Docker and VMware)
  • Experience with web services, networking and scalable solutions (DNS, TCP/IP, NGINX, firewalls, Load Balancing)
  • Strong scripting skills (e.g. Powershell, bash, Python)
  • Configuration management tools (Ansible/Terraform)
  • Cloud technologies (AWS/Azure/GCP)

Desirable Skills:

  • Agile experience (e.g. SCRUM)
  • Experience with build systems (e.g. CMake, msbuild)
  • Experience using package management systems (e.g. Conan, Nugent, NPM, Artifactory)
