User Guides

The following is a comprehensive list of user guides covering all aspects of the IES Virtual Environment.

Loading File List...

CFD

The purpose of this document is to summarise the principle steps in performing a MicroFlo CFD simulation

Cost

CostPlan is a general purpose software product allowing the user to estimate costs. It can be customised for any costing activity and is particularly suitable to provide an Outline Cost Plan for a model as output from ModelIT.

CostPlan is a general purpose software product allowing the user to estimate costs. It can be customised for any costing activity and is particularly suitable to provide an Outline Cost Plan for a model as output from ModelIT.

This document demonstrates the accuracy of the LifeCycle algorithms and provides an explanation of how to assign different LCA elements to the different categories available in LifeCycle.

Daikin Plug-in

The purpose of this User Guide is to illustrate how to size and simulate Daikin VRV systems within the VE

Electrical

This document provides a user guide to Field, a program for the design and analysis of electrical installations in accordance with BS 7671, Requirements for Electrical Installations (formerly the16th. Edition of the IEE Wiring Regulations), with Amendment No. 1, 1994.

The device database editor is used for reviewing and maintaining the Field protective device database. It can also be used for adjusting the settings on adjustable protective devices, for copying and pasting to specific circuits in Field.

Evacuation

Lisi is a powerful, easy-to-use lift design and simulation tool, examining both up-peak and down-peak scenarios. With Lisi you achieve the optimum lift strategy, making best use of time and money.

Simulex enables you to define a building and its occupants, and simulate how they move around a building day-to-day and evacuate during an emergency.

General

The Building Template Manager (BTM) is the room template manager for the programs. It allows for easy designation of common zone features and conditions when constructing a model.

A list of keyboard shortcuts within the Virtual Environment.

The purpose of this document is to summarise the principle steps in performing a MicroFlo CFD simulation

New Features in VE 6.4

This User Guide will illustrate the features and capabilities of VE-Pro 6.4

Greenmark

This User Guide will illustrate the capabilities of the VE Navigator for Green Mark

Installation

This document provides a detailed installation guide for the VE.

This document provides a quick installation guide for the VE

Lighting

This manual describes FlucsDL, a module available in the VE for performing day lighting analysis calculations.

FlucsLDB User Guide

FlucsPro is a module available in the VE for performing lighting design and analysis calculations using CIBSE methods.

This document is an introduction to some of the essential concepts on which subsequent Lighting topics are based.

A user guide for luminaire placement and editing within the 3D building model.

An overview of Radiance, a tool used to calculate lighting levels, Daylight Factors or Glare for daylight and/or artificial lighting.

This document provides information on the Radiance commands used by the IES interface.

Radiance Glossary

Information about Radiance and how IES have integrated it into the Virtual Environment.

The Radiance picture viewer enables the user to view and analyse images previously created in the Radiance picture (*.pic) format.

Mechanical

This manual gives an overview of Indus, an interactive program for the sizing of air-duct networks.

IndusPro is a special view available in the VE for creating three-dimensional duct networks within the context of the building model.

This manual describes Pisces, an interactive pipe sizing program for hot or chilled-water circuits.

PiscesPro is a special view available in the VE for creating three-dimensional Pipe networks within the context of the building model.

Taps is a fully interactive program for the sizing of hot and cold water services. It allows you to design a hot or cold water outflow system by specifying the properties of pipework branches connected to one another via nodes.

Model Builder

A user manual for the Component Modeller, a model building element in the VE that allows the user to create a library of components which can then be placed within the model.

ConstructDXF is used to produce data for IES’s thermal, shading analysis, lighting and building design appraisal software by scanning ordinary DXF drawings of building plan layouts, and generating a 3D building data model, within the ModelIT environment.

The purpose of this guide is to assist CAD operators, engineers and architects in the preparation of DXF format CAD drawings for subsequent use by IES’s ConstructDXF software.

This guide introduces the terminology used to describe ModelIT and includes a description of all the ModelIT features i.e. toolbars, pull-down menu items and pop-up windows

This User Guide will demonstrate the features of Model Viewer II, the second generation viewer for the Virtual Environment

This User Guide will illustrate how to import performance components into the Virtual Environment

IES VE 2012 Performance Components User Guide

VE 2012 Performance Components User Guide

Revit Plugin

Powerful new functionality in Revit allows for faster, more accurate Building Performance Analysis

The IES Toolbar Plug-in for Revit Architecture is a free Plug-in that provides a link between Revit Architecture and both the IES Sustainability Toolkits and the IES Virtual Environment.

The IES VE Revit Plug-in provides a link between Autodesk Revit Architecture and MEP and IES VE-Ware, VE-Toolkits and VE-Pro.

Show Me

The ShowMe Tools provide a fast way of generating reports or creating room groups from rules.

Sketchup Plugin

This plug-in links SketchUp 6, 7 and SketchUp Pro 6, 7 to the VE suite of tools: VE-Ware, VE-Toolkits, VE-Gaia and VE-Pro. This document is intended as a brief introduction to the plug-in to let you get started.

This plug-in links SketchUp 6, 7 and SketchUp Pro 6, 7 to the VE suite of tools: VE-Ware, VE-Toolkits, VE-Gaia and VE-Pro. This document is intended as a brief introduction to the plug-in to let you get started.

Solar

SunCast can be used at any stage of the design process to perform shading and solar insolation studies and can generate images and animations quickly and easily from a model created by the IES ModelBuilder.

A user guide for SunPath, a tool used to show a stereographic projection of the Sun's path across the sky.

suncasttutorial.pdf

Sustainability Toolkit

When a model is imported to the VE via gbXML from either Revit Architecture or Revit MEP, Set Model Properties is opened. The Set Model Properties window allows the imported model to be viewed with the Modelviewer controls.

The Sustainability Toolkit is a toolkit incorporated into the VE to allow users to perform Energy and Lighting analyses on Building Performance Models created from Building Information Models in Revit MEP.

Thermal

The program CIBSE Heat Loss & Heat Gain (ApacheCalc) performs heat loss and heat gain calculations according to the procedures laid down in CIBSE Guide A (1995, 1999, 2001, 2006).

ApacheHVAC User Guide (VE 2012 Feature Pack 1 version)

The program ASHRAE Heat Balance Method (ApacheLoads) performs heat loss and heat gain calculations according to the procedures laid down in the ASHRAE Fundamentals.

ApacheSim is a dynamic thermal simulation program based on first-principles mathematical modelling of the heat transfer processes occurring within and around a building.

Apache-Tables

A user guide for Apache View, which is a view within the Virtual Environment’s Thermal category.

ApLocate is the weather and site location editor for ApacheCalc, ApacheLoads, ApacheSim, SunCast and Radiance.

This User Guide explains how to use APpro, the Profiles Database. Profiles describe the time variation of thermal input parameters. They are used in ApacheCalc, ApacheSim, ApacheHVAC, MacroFlo, Part L/J and Template Manager.

This User Guide explains how to use the Constructions Database

The Daikin VRV System Plug-in is capable of sizing and simulation of the Daikin's VRV equipment.

A user guide for MacroFlo, a program for analysing infiltration and natural ventilation in buildings.

The Tabular Building Template Manager (Tabular BTM) is a new feature in the Virtual Environment that allows you to rapidly inspect the thermal conditions templates and room attributes templates in your models.

Tabular Room Data is a feature within the Virtual Environment that allows you to rapidly inspect and modify the standard thermal attributes, internal gains and air exchanges for rooms in your models.
