International Seminar: Application of Simulation in Building Energy Conservation and Sustainable Cooling

We are pleased to announce that Dr Don McLean, Founder and CEO of IES and Sriman NCVK, Business Development Manager & Consulting Engineer for IES will be speaking at the upcoming International Seminar: Application of Simulation in Building Energy Conservation and Sustainable Cooling.

Most of the existing buildings in Malaysia are conventional in terms of energy efficiency and their usage, which exceeds the actual needs. This study is based on the Building Energy Index (BEI), an international standard used to measure specific energy consumption in a building referring to MS 1525: 2014. The Seminar is held to provide exposure onthe importance of using  simulated skills to predict energy generated by buildings for energy conservation and sustainablecooling.  The seminar will cover using indoor energy consumption simulation software based on IR 4.0 concept. This program is crucial in highlighting and applying "Green" practice to ensure optimum energy utilization for human wellbeing, environmental conservation and energy sufficiency for the future.

Speaker profiles:

Dr Don McLean, Founder & CEO - IES

Don has over 40 years of experience in the use and development of building simulation software. In June 1994, he founded IES in order to develop the Virtual Environment suite of integrated building design and simulation tools.  His objectives were to overcome many of the obstacles to the uptake of building simulation products and ultimately fully integrate them into the building design process. IES is recognized as a world leader in 3D performance analysis software that is used to design hundreds of thousands  of energy efficient buildings across the globe. IES’ technology is supported by integrated consulting services and today its capabilities are expanding from use on individual buildings to helping create sustainable cities.

Sriman NCVK, Consulting Engineer - IES

Sriman gained a B.Eng with distinction from Osmania University in 2007.  He started his career as an Engineer in Confederation of Indian Industry & moved on to JLL to work as Assistant Manager for Energy & Sustainability Services. He got his M.S. from National University of Singapore. His degree is one of the pioneering graduate programme in building science in Asia. Post M.S, he continued his tenure with JLL as Manager.  Sriman has been associated with the simulation industry right from the start of his career. His work as certification facilitator has exposed him to the complexities of building modelling & energy simulation.

Prof Emiritus Dato’ Ar Dr Elias Bin Salleh

He had served Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) from 1973 to 1999, before being appointed as  a Deputy Vice Chancellor of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) from 1999 to 2003 on secondment. Upon mandatory retirement in 2003 he then served Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) as Professor of Architecture until 2011 and later in May 2012 he joined Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) as Principal Research Fellow. In 2008 he involved in the founding of the Malaysia Green Building Confederation (MGBC), an NGO which promotes sustainability in the Malaysian building industry, and was involved in the early discussions about green building rating system for Malaysia which resulted in the establishment of Green Building Index (GBI) in 2009.  In May 2012 he  joined Solar Energy Research Institute (SERI) in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) as Principal Research Fellow specialising in passive low-energy building design, which is the core of his research interest.

Ar Dr Lim Chin Haw

He is a Senior Research Fellow at the Solar Energy Research Institute (SERI), UKM and a professional registered Architect with the Malaysia Board of Architects.  He has 28 years of professional architectural practice experience and avid researcher covering a variety of projects both local and international. His area of expertise encompasses Passive and Low Energy Architecture, Building  Integrated PV System (BIPV), Energy Efficiency in Buildings, Solar Assisted Air-Conditioning system, Building Performance Simulation and Natural Ventilation. He has also received several awards namely the Asean Energy Awards 2004 and 2014, Silver Medal Award for Building Integrated PV Thermal Solar Collectors at International Exposition of Research and Invention (PECIPTA) 2009.
